Miguel was re-elected chair.
 
Discussed implementation of common course numbering project.  Alice brought up the issue of placement score cut offs (brought by Pat at Basic Skills). Miguel contacted the System Office but did not receive any updated information.  The Math Issues Committee requests to be included in further discussions with the System Office and agreed to communicate and meet with Dr. Cocchiola for the purpose of discussing any and all issues related to mathematics common numbering and mathematics common cut scores.
 
It was suggested that we should volunteer to be one of first disciplines to activate common course numbering system - since we have come to consensus and are in agreement about everything.
 
Announcement: CCELT (CT Consortium for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching) meeting next Friday – November  1, at Western CT State University.
  
In the future we will dedicate a meeting to tell what we have been doing - to help us decide what we should do in future etc.
 
We will also talk about intermediate algebra topics at a future meeting – Elaine asked if we address the fact that there is a need for logs in chemistry.
 
Barbara will email David Gross about status of intermediate algebra.
 
Alice B. brought up  intermediate algebra standards – some information from state of Washington that indicates they want to explore alternate symbolic reasoning courses (Intermediate Algebra is the prerequisite standard by which other courses are judged “College Level Math” for all WA schools).  Could this happen here? 
 
We need to write learning outcomes for each course - not list of topics from text.
 
Elaine requested information regarding ARC (alternative route to certification); only 30 math credits are required – nothing particular specified. Miguel brought up that Praxis II will keep those students who only take low level math from getting certified – it includes calc 1,2, and linear algebra, etc.
 
Think about what we might like to see for MATYCONN spring meeting.
 
Alice asked what we do for professional development -  professional development that is discipline specific is low priority at this time. 
 
It was decided that 10 minutes from each of our meetings will be dedicated to a person sharing something from internet and/or technology.
 
Larisa asked if anyone does math labs - could we help her organize – Bob had some info for her.
