The System-wide Professional Day
It is scheduled for September 23, 2005, for local activities. In the future we should try to influence the content of professional days to include Math issues.

Full-time openings

There are several math full-time openings in the system which will soon be announced. Encourage adjuncts to check the community college system web site, http://www.commnet.edu/ and the Chronicle for Higher Education to take advantage of the positions.

Math 143-144
Elaine asked for input on the renaming of Math for Elem. Ed I &II to better reflect that one is not the prerequisite for the other. The group decided that “Math for Elem Ed:Alg, Nmbr Sys” and “Math for Elem Ed:Geom, Data” would better describe yet keep within the 30 character Banner System limit.

Statistics
Pat reported that the statistics grid had been approved by the MBSCC committee and should be posted for access by all community colleges.

Pat and Elaine will meet with Kate McLaughlin (UCONN) in October about Statistics course alignments between our institutions.

Pat and Elaine will offer suggestions next meeting for possible name changes for Statistics with Technology.

Professional development
Miguel is still looking into a professional development activity for summer 2006, on reforming the curriculum for College Algebra, similar to Calculus reform, a project by Dan Small, US Military Academy (formerly at Colby). The group discussed the possibility of meeting for a Thursday eve. – Sat. conference in May, before summer session begins.

Pathways to Teaching
The Pathways program for Gateway and SCSU has created a draft agreement. Miguel has a copy.

Next Meeting
The next meeting of Math Issues will be October 28th

On the agenda will be the possible monitoring of the content of courses with common numbering.

The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
