Math
143-144
—
While the Math Departments of the colleges involved have agreed to the
name modifications, the change is yet to be approved by the Council of
Deans.
The central office says the name change procedure is: the schools teaching
the course must have agreement from the math departments, then the Deans
will vote on it. Math Issues members are
asked to relay the proposed name changes to the Math Department chair and
request that the chair speak to the Dean to urge approval, since it was
tabled at the last Deans’ meeting. (MAT 143 – Math for Elem Ed:Alg, Numbr
Sys and MAT 144 – Math for Elem Ed: Geom, Data)
Statistics
—
The
name change for 167 was discussed. Based on information collected to date,
an informal survey was taken and the name Principles of Statistics
is the frontrunner at this point. Math
Issues members are urged to seek approval for this name change from their
departments and be prepared to vote on the change at the March meeting.
The
Math Issues course name change process was discussed. Pat will revise the
Process for a Course Name Change and email it to Math Issues
members. Members are encouraged to review
the process and offer suggestions at the March meeting.
Pat and Elaine hope to meet with Kate McLaughlin (UCONN)
about Statistics course alignments between our institutions.
Special Topics Courses
—
Miguel suggested that course number 098 be reserved in the common course
numbering grid for running new courses on a trial basis. He believes that
198 is reserved for new courses, although this has not been confirmed.
Likewise, 098 would be reserved for new developmental courses. Members
agreed with this suggestion. Miguel will email
Dr. Cocchiola to confirm it.
